Its hard to be a Minnesota fan right now

It feels like all of our proffesional teams, with the exception of the Wild have decided that they are in rebuilding mode.

The Vikings are getting closer, but are in desperate need of a passing game from both the QB and WR positions.

The Twins, although they refuse to admit that they are building for the future, have traded away Johan Santana, signed their 3 best players to get them into the new stadium, and handed out a bunch of 1 year contracts to bums.

The Timberwolves traded Kevin Garnett to the Celtics for Al Jefferson and bunch of cap, youth and draft picks.

Then look at U of M hoops and football, both with new coaches.

It seems like ages since the Twins made the 2nd round of the play-offs, the Vikings made it to an NFC championship, The Wild made the 3rd round of the playoffs and the Wolves were in the Western Confrence finals. what do you think MN fans.... will we be back soon when all the rebuilding is done?

Its hard to be a Minnesota fan right now

a small market team losing high priced free agents and so on doesn't exactly mean its rebuilding mode.   The Twins are not in rebuilding mode.  It does seem that way because of the players they lost.   Thats not the case.   If liriano is healthy which it seems he is.  They might be as good as they were last year.   They will certainly be better down the line.   No small market team can afford to pay huge contracts the way the yankees ,mets and teams like that can do.  Hunter would have tied about more then a third of the teams total salary.   santana would have been about the same.   I wish the twins could have gotten a player like ellsbury or hughes that could step in and help right now but that didn't happen.   Adding delmon Young was a great pickup.   He could step in a replace hunter's offensive production.   Nobody in baseball could replace his defensively but at about 2% of hunter's salary its not a bad deal.  They basically have liriano to replace santana.  They added several top prospects who could step in and help possibly as early as this year but more likely next year beyond carlos gomez who may leave camp as a starter.

They are probably not a better team this year then last.  They are still a very good team however.   The larger problem is they are in probably baseball's strongest division.    2 of probably the top 5 teams in the league in detroit and cleveland.   Even with last years team its unlikely they would have made the playoffs this year.    They have unloaded quite a bit of payroll so they might actually be able to land a free agent next year and they should start to see the benefits from the santana trade and losing hunter gave them 2 compensation picks.   I guess my point is they are better off a few years down the line but its still a competetive team.  one that could very well be 500 and even a wild card contender this year if liriano stays healthy.

Its not really fair to talk about all those teams as being on same level.   they are all rebuilding.  well the vikings just missed the playoffs.   The twins were close last year and should be close again this year.   The timberwolves are just pathetic and atleast a few years from winning.   The twins are more like reloading.   the vikings are an up and coming team.  you are right about them needing a passing game though.  That to me is like comparing the rockies or brewers to the pirates.

Its hard to be a Minnesota fan right now

Im not going to lie it is hard to be a MN fan right now, but I will always be one. I hate seeing our big names leave, but I understand we can't keep them forever.

The Vikings have made more moves this Off-Season than I have seen in many years to get better. I won't consider them re-building, but more as "up-grading" in areas of importance.

The Wolves are in what is an extensive re-building process that will take a few years to return back to a contender, but McHale has to prove himself for once.

The Twins are not really re-building, but they are in some eyes becasue we lost two big names for young players/draft picks ect......and some would consider that a "re-building" process.

The Wild exploded on the scene then kinda calmed down and have proven to be a consistant team, but not enough to get back to that 2003 performance in the playoffs.

So for our 4 big sports in the state of MN, it has been a down time forsure and its hard to see all these other teams making moves left and right and winning CHAMPIONSHIPS. I can only wait for now, but I know our time is coming

Yea, all of them are rebuilding, so for you Minnesota fans just stick with your teams for a couple of more years and they will eventually get back in the hunt.
